Iron River man injured in U.S. 2 mishap
IRON MOUNTAIN – An Iron River man was treated for injuries and released at Northstar Hospital in Iron River following a two-vehicle accident at 11:55 a.m. Monday on U.S. 2 near New Bristol Road in Crystal Falls Township.
Steven Berndt, 23, of Crystal Falls was the driver of a westbound vehicle that attempted to turn south into a private drive but went out of control due to weather-related road conditions, said state police at the Iron Mountain post.
The Berndt vehicle entered the path of an eastbound vehicle driven by Frederick Jacobs, 55, of Iron River, and there was a collision in the eastbound lane, troopers said. The Jacobs vehicle then left the roadway and overturned.
Jacobs was transported to the hospital by Northstar EMS and treated and released, troopers said.
Berndt was cited for failure to yield to traffic.
Seat belts were used by both drivers and alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash, troopers said.
