Florence Czapiga

IRON MOUNTAIN – Florence I. Czapiga, 89, of Iron Mountain, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at Freeman Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Kingsford.

She was born Sept. 17, 1924, in Caspian, daughter of the late John and Teresa (Signorin) Selmo. Florence graduated from Stambaugh High School in 1943. She married Walter Czapiga on July 3, 1949, in Gaastra. He preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 1981.

Florence lived in Iron Mountain since 1992. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and playing cards. Florence loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Peter Selmo; and two sisters, Josephine Wurzer and Mary Cubalchini.

She is survived by her four children, Stanley (Paula) Czapiga of Marquette, Walter (Roxanne) Czapiga of Davison, Lynette (Skip) Schneider of Marquette and Elizabeth Adams of Iron Mountain; seven grandchildren, Kevin (Marie) Schneider, Brian (Jackie) Czapiga, Adam Czapiga, Matthew Czapiga, Renee Adams (Tom Lindholm), Roberta Adams and Alex Adams; two great-grandchildren, Brogan Czapiga and Nicholas Schneider; three sisters-in-law, Maggie Selmo, Theresa Kovacich, and Florence Madaski; and several nieces and nephews. Florence is also survived by a very close friend, Lily Kehoe.

The family would like to thank Liz and Lily for the excellent care they provided.

Private family services will be held Friday, Dec. 27, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Fr. Michael Woempner will officiate.

Burial will take place in the spring at Stambaugh Cemetery and will be announced by the funeral home.
