KINGSFORD – Dennis Izzo, 58, of Kingsford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at his home surrounded by family. Dennis courageously battled ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) with unconditional support from loving family members and close friends.
He was born on Aug. 1, 1955, in Iron Mountain, son of Marcella (Legault) and the late Carmen Izzo. He attended Iron Mountain Schools, graduating from Iron Mountain High School in 1973. He was born and raised in Iron Mountain.
Dennis married Sharon Perron on Sept. 7, 1974, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. When Dennis was 15, he began working at Izzo’s Home Improvements for his uncle Carl, installing awnings over the doors and windows of many businesses.
He was an avid Michigan State, Green Bay Packers, and NASCAR fan. Dennis enjoyed going to the casino, Michigan State basketball and Green Bay Packers’ games, and his nephew, Chad Hord’s off-road races.
He enjoyed the outdoors, especially deer hunting, bird hunting, ice fishing and trout fishing. More than anything Dennis loved the time he spent at camp with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carmen Izzo; his grandfathers and grandmothers, Anthony and Philomena Izzo, and Andy and Helen Legault.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Izzo of Kingsford; his son, Paul (Andrea) Izzo of Holt; his daughter, Kimberly (Eric) Freeman of Green Bay, Wis.; his mother, Marcella Izzo of Iron Mountain; a brother, David (Lori) Izzo of Aviano, Italy; sisters, Marsha (Ron) Hord of Felch and Julie (Brian) Fortier of Kingsford; his special granddog, Briggs; he is further survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends.
Private family services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
