QUINNESEC – Verso Paper Corp.’s Quinnesec Mill employees surprised three local United Ways with checks, presented by the Mill’s United Way fund-raising committee, totaling $74,640.04.

The Dickinson Area, Delta County and Tri-City Area (serving portions of Marinette, Menominee and Oconto counties) are included in the mill’s annual campaign.

A check for $66,202.52 was presented to the United Way of the Dickinson County Area. That amount included a company match. Tri-City received a check for $7,821, and Delta County received $617.

This year’s goal for the United Way of the Dickinson County Area is $105,000.

“Every year the generosity of our employees is overwhelming. It really makes me proud to be part of such a giving workforce,” says Mill Information Technology Manager and Mill United Way Committee Chairperson Kevin Kazianka.

“This money is invaluable to our community,” said Dickinson Area United Way Executive Director Barb Messer. “The employees at this mill donated more than half of our entire fundraising dollars for the year.”

“This contribution will help numerous organizations (11 in 2013) and offer assistance that will benefit about one in every three people in our local community,” Messer said. “The impact of the Quinnesec mill workforce is just tremendous.”

Verso Paper Corp. also contributes to the United Way campaigns at each of its locations nationwide. This year the company pledged $13,750 in additional funds to the Quinnesec Mill campaign.

The United Way of Dickinson County provides year-round administration of funds to agencies, works with agencies to improve and expand programs in the area, provide campaign supplies, leadership and help to volunteers, and maintains records for federal and state requirements and annual audit/review.
