Lady Trojans eyeing another state push

CRYSTAL FALLS – Forest Park won the Skyline Conference with a perfect record and reached the Class D state quarterfinals last season.

And from the looks of things, Forest Park may produce another successful regular season and tournament run.

Coach Jeff Syrjanen’s Trojans thumped North Central in the season opener Tuesday. They undergo a stern Skyline Conference test Friday with a trip to Bark River-Harris.

“From the frying pan into the fire,” Syrjanen said of the early league slate.

Forest Park’s 2013-14 squad features futures 6-foot Lexi Gussert, a future Michigan State Spartan who wound up on everybody’s all-state team. Gussert, Skyline’s top player and defender, led an all-conference contingent with second-team teammate Kendra Campbell plus honorable mention Sierra Robarge and Sam Nylund.

Maria Stankewicz, Jessica Bawayn, Adel Isaacson, Kelsi Hendrickson, Mary Grandahl and Kaitlyn Bradley also played last season.
