NIAGARA, Wis. – Joseph Pataconi, 94, of Niagara, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Jan. 21, 1919, in Iron Mountain, the son of the late Alessandro and Giovanna (Giovannotti) Pataconi.
Joseph worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941-1945, and earned a Purple Heart during the landing on Omaha Beach.
Joe married Dolores “DeeDee” DuBord on Sept. 9, 1950, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Niagara. The couple celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this year.
He worked at the VA Medical Center and was a member of Maranatha Assembly of God Church. Joe liked to keep busy doing things around the house and working in construction. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Dolores “DeeDee” of Niagara; three children, Janell (James) Casey of Canby, Ore., Dwight (Judy) Pataconi of San Diego, and Christella (Phil) Couch of Marathon, N.Y.; one brother, Robert (Mary Ann) Pataconi-Rehner of Indiana; seven grandchildren, Brian (Anna) Casey, Heather (Brian) Duman, Daniel (Carolyn) Pataconi, David (Sandra) Pataconi, Anthony Bemis, Adam Bemis and Shawna (Aaron) Shephard; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Rudy and Bill Pataconi; and three sisters, Minnie Tavonatti, Elda Fiorucci and Vilanda Sparapani.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Maranatha Assembly of God Church. A memorial service will follow Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. David Wilton will officiate.
Now, as we say farewell to our precious Husband, Dad, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa, we know that today we celebrate Joe’s arrival into the arms of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
