2-year-old dies in Amberg fire

MARINETTE, Wis. – A child died Tuesday in a structure fire in the town of Amberg, Wis.

The blaze started at a residence on U.S. 141 at about 12:40 p.m.

Marinette County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy James Hanson said that Marinette County Coroner George Smith has ordered an autopsy to positively identify the victim.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, said Hanson.

More information will be released as it becomes available, he added.

Assisting at the scene were the Amberg Fire Department, Athelstane Fire Department, Wausaukee Fire Department, Pembine Fire Department, Marinette County Fire Task Force, Wausaukee Rescue, Pembine Rescue, IFR Rescue, Thedastar, Wisconsin Public Service, Marinette County Emergency Government, and the State Fire Marshal from the Department of Justice-Division of Criminal Investigation.


The victim has been identified as 2-year-old Lee-Ann R. Arendt of Amberg. Lee-Ann’s mother and two sisters all escaped the fire uninjured, said Marinette County Chief Deputy James Hansen.
