BREITUNG TOWNSHIP – Ray L. Raiche, 80, of Upper Pine Creek in Breitung Township, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain. Ray was born on July 2, 1933, in Wilson, son of the late Leo and Tiny (LaCrosse) Raiche.
Ray was inducted into the United States Army on June 9, 1953, and served during the Korean War with the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper. He was honorably discharged as corporal on Sept. 24, 1953.
Ray married Martha Guth on June 16, 1956, in Upper Pine Creek. He worked for Grede Foundry for 38 years, retiring in 1992.
Ray was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Norway and enjoyed the fellowship at the church’s mens prayer breakfast. He also enjoyed carpentry, woodworking, gardening, cooking, canning, camping and working puzzles. He especially loved time spent with his family and attending his families activities and events.
Ray is survived by his wife, Martha; children, Terry (Nancy) Raiche of Iron Mountain and Patti (Mark) Bellmore of Quinnesec; grandchildren, Jason (Bridget) Raiche, Brianne (Paul Chartier) Bellmore, Brandon Bellmore, Joel Cotton, Melissa Anderson, and Samantha (Tony) Micheau; great-grandchildren, Madison, Beau, Kaylee, Tyler, Tayler, Emily, Haley, Sydney, Alex and Colin; brother, Larry (Sue) Raiche of Vulcan; sisters, Luella Gattra of Norway, Shirley Stachowicz of Vulcan and Connie (Roger) Secrist of Channing; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald (Rosemary) and Elvis “Sonny” (Roberta) Raiche; brothers-in-law, Ted Stachowicz and John Gattra; and an infant sister, Goldie Joy.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 27, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Norway.
Funeral services will follow Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the church. Pastor Michael Langlais will officiate.
Burial will be in the Norway Township Cemetery. Ray’s grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
A memorial will be established in his memory at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
