James Bacsik

ESCANABA – James B. “Jim” Bacsik, 68, of Escanaba, Rapid River and Powers, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba following a lengthy illness.

James was born April 18, 1945, in Rapid River, the son of Bertalan and Josie (Vietzke) Bacsik. He was raised in Rapid River, where he was a 1963 graduate of Rapid River High School. Following graduation he spent four years in the International Brotherhood Carpenter School in Detroit where he did a two year apprenticeship and worked two years as a journeyman for carpet installation. James was a self-employed carpet layer for many carpet companies in the area. He lived most of his life in Rapid River until he became ill and moved to Escanaba. Jim currently was a resident at the Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.

James was a member of the Delta Alano Club in Gladstone and his hobbies included camping, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include a son, Timothy (Connie) Jolly of Clinton Township, Mich.; a daughter, Kelly (Scott) Bellmore of Hermansville; a daughter-in-law, Lucy Jolly of Gladstone; a brother, Sandor (Kathy) Bacsik of Detroit; a sister, Esther Grenfell of Burton, Mich.; an uncle, Richard (Lenore) Vietzke of Escanaba; a grandson, Christopher (Jamie Herbst) Bacsik of Nadeau; several setp-grandchildren; a nephew, Briton Grenfell; and several cousins.

In addition to his parents, his son, David Jolly and his sister, Susan Bacsik, preceded James in death.

Jim’s family will receive friends on Thursday Nov. 21, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern time at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba.

Funeral services celebrating the life of James “Jim” Bacsik will follow Thursday at 7 p.m. with Rev. Christine Bergquist officiating.

Burial will be held on Friday at 9 a.m. at the Rapid River Cemetery.
