Fatal fire in Iron Mountain

IRON MOUNTAIN – One person was killed in a structure fire in Iron Mountain early this morning.

The blaze started at about 1 a.m. in a residence at 309 West D Street.

Firefighters from the Iron Mountain Fire Department said that information received by dispatchers indicated that an occupant was possibly inside the building.

Upon arrival, firefighters found that fire was coming out of a window on the ground floor.

They entered the residence, extinguished the fire, and located a single victim.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. A fire marshal was on scene this morning to investigate.

Firefighters said that the fire was mostly confined to the room where the victim was found. The rest of the residence sustained smoke damage, they said.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of relatives.

Assisting at the scene were the Iron Mountain Police Department, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department, Kingsford Public Safety Department, Michigan State Police, and Integrated First Response.
