Bobcats to honor departing coach

FLORENCE, Wis. – Trudy’s Tribute Tournament, an event to honor retiring Florence High School volleyball coach Trudy Rochon, will be held Saturday, Nov. 30, in the high school gym.

The volleyball tournament, featuring alumni playing one last time for Trudy Rochon, will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Players will receive a T-shirt to commemorate the day.

” I know I am really excited to see old classmates and play with them again,” said Teresa Richtig Chrisman, one of the “Tribute” organizers. “We encourage the community to come and watch Ladycat volleyball and wish Trudy well.”

Rochon has been coaching varsity volleyball at Florence High School for over 20 years. She began coaching junior varsity in the 1980’s and in 1992 she became the varsity coach.

“Sadly, this year was her last,” Chrisman said. “Several past players wanted to do something special for Trudy as she was a great coach and confidant for many girls.

“We think this will be a great community event where players young and old can play again. Volleyball fans will be in for a treat, and it will be special for the whole family to see what Ladycat pride is all about.”

There is no cost for admission but a donation to the Florence Athletic Booster Club would be appreciated. Concession stand will be available as well as Bobcat apparel.

There will also be a 50-50 drawing during the tournament. All proceeds will be donated to the Florence Athletic Booster Club.

“We really hope to see Bobcat boosters at the event to say thank you and congratulations to Coach Trudy Rochon,” Chrisman said.

During her 21 years of coaching, Rochon’s Ladycats achieved 15 Northern Lakes Conference championships, seven regional titles and three sectional finals.

After the “Tribute” tournament, a mixer will be held at the Florence Community Center.

Alumni not contacted and wishing to play, or anyone with questions, should contact Chrisman at
