IRON MOUNTAIN – Ellen Marsha Fagan, 83, of Iron Mountain, passed away Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at Cedar Village Retirement Community in Cincinnati. She was with her daughter and granddaughters at the time of her passing.
Ellen was born Aug. 2, 1930, in Iron Mountain, to Esau and Ethel (Joffee) Cohodes. She graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1948, and from Northern Michigan University with a degree in English in 1952. Ellen taught junior high English in Pontiac.
Ellen married Allen Fagan of Bay City in 1954. They were married in Iron Mountain and then lived together in Bay City before moving back to Iron Mountain in 1963, when Allen began working for Ellen’s father, Esau at Cohodes Oil Co. Ellen worked as a librarian at the Dickinson County Library from 1975 until 2005.
She was active in the Iron Mountain Hadassah chapter. Ellen moved to Cincinnati to be closer to her daughter after the death of Allen in 2005.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Steve) Whayne of West Chester, Ohio; her sister, Helen Lee Wilens of Chicago; daughter-in-law, Lori Fagan of Denver; and her five granddaughters, Chelsea, Elise and Talia Fagan, and Jessica and Abby Whayne.
Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Allen and her son, Mark.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.
Graveside services will follow Tuesday in the Jewish section of Cemetery Park. Rabbi Sidney Vineberg will officiate.
