NIAGARA, Wis. – Diane Marie Gronert, 69, of Niagara passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at Dickinson County Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born on Sept. 29, 1944, to Michael and Mae (Trudell) Ponzio. She graduated from Niagara High School in 1962.
Diane married William Gronert on Oct. 31, 1964, and together they shared 48 wonderful years. As a couple, they worked hand in hand raising two boys, Michael and Scott. Together Bill and Diane owned and operated Culligan Water Conditioning of Iron Mountain for nearly 20 years.
In her spare time she enjoyed swimming, picking four leaf clovers and crocheting afghans and spending as much time as possible with her grandkids Megan and Jack. Her passion was her gardens, giving away perennial plants by the truck load.
Diane is survived by her sons, Michael Gronert (partner Tom Paulikas) of Milwaukee, and Scott Gronert (Emmy) of Iron Mountain; and grandchildren, Megan and Jack Gronert.
Diane also leaves her four brothers, Ray (Sharon Ann) Ponzio of Niagara, Bruce (Deborah) Ponzio of Florida, Robert Ponzio of Escanaba, and Russell (Lisa) Ponzio of Escanaba; three sisters, Patricia (Bob Lee) Carrington of Ann Arbor, Debra (Milan) Christi of Denver, Colo., and Carol (Jeff) Ballard of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. All of Diane’s brothers, sisters, and their families were very special to her and she felt very blessed to have such a big family.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents Michael and Mae Ponzio; her husband Bill Gronert; and her sister Sharon Vaught.
A celebration of Diane’s life will held on Monday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m. at Maranatha Assembly of God Church in Kingsford.
