IC Museum volunteer awards program Saturday, Galleria starts

CASPIAN – The Iron County Historical & Museum Society will honor seven local residents and one local organization for their volunteer contributions to the community.

The program is one feature of the 24th Annual Christmas Tree Galleria to be held at the museum Saturday through Nov. 17.

The Volunteer Awards program will take place on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Museum Society will present the honorees with Certifications of Appreciation, and 110th District State Representative Scott Dianda will make presentations of Award Honors signed by Governor Rick Snyder, 38th District State Senator Tom Casperson and Dianda. The Volunteer Awards program is sponsored by the First National Bank & Trust of Iron Mountain-Kingsford & Plaza branch.

Each of the honorees has been or is involved in a number of programs and projects. The honorees are: Gene Byrge of Alpha, who has been involved in Samaritan Centers of the UP; Randy Dion of Crystal Falls, who is a volunteer at the Harbour House Museum; Kelly Mullinax of Amasa, who is president and curator of the Amasa Museum; Sharon Nickels of Mansfield Township, who is president of the Forest Park Music Boosters and a member of the Mansfield Memories Committee; Larry Pifke of Stambaugh Township, who is a volunteer instructor for youth hunting safety programs; Pat Turner of Beechwood, who volunteers with the Beechwood Historical Society and the Iron County Museum Archives; and Ron Sykora of Bates Township, who volunteers in the Kinship program. The ICH&M Society is also honoring the Iron County Golden K for their volunteer contributions which include assisting with blood drives, Project Graduation and Gifts with Santa.

Sally Blyze will provide musical selections before the program.

The Volunteer Awards program is the first of four special programs to be held during the Galleria.

On Sunday at 2 p.m., the West End Players will entertain. The program is sponsored by Lindwall Motors and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

On Monday, Nov.11, Family Night will be held from 5:30 to 7:30, and is sponsored by the Dickinson Area Community Foundation.

The Galleria will conclude on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. with entertainment by Paula D and the raffle drawing for the Special Baskets. The Galleria hours are Saturdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday through Friday 1 to 4 p.m.

The specially decorated Christmas trees and Special Baskets will be on display for viewing, and tickets for the basket raffles will be on sale throughout the Galleria.

Admission to the Volunteer Awards program, the West End Players program and the Family Night is free.

Admission to the remaining Galleria days is $5 for adults and for children, a non-perishable food item for the food pantry.
