Betty J. Peterson

NIAGARA, Wis. – Betty J. Peterson, 81, of Niagara, passed away Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.

She was born June 22, 1932, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Christopher and Luella (Smart) Hoveland. Betty graduated from Kingsford High School. She married Frank Peterson on June 14, 1952, at First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain.

Betty worked for the Ford plant in Kingsford and the Chemical Co. for a few years. She later went to work for the Niagara Paper Mill as an office clerk for omore than 20 years, retiring in 1994.

She was a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church in Niagara, and the Masonic Order of the Eastern Star. Betty loved spending time with her family, gardening, spending winters in Florida, relaxing at her cottage in Spread Eagle, Wis., and was an avid Packers fan.

She is survived by her husband, Frank; four daughters, Lisa (Tom Anderson) Hendricks of Niagara, Kristie (Mark) Coats of Mississippi, Wendy Peterson of Green Bay, Wis., and Paula (Mark) Christensen of Suamico, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Neil (Jenny) Hendricks, Ryan (Christina) Hendricks, Brenda Cheney, Michelle Cheney, Nicole Heckman, Kristel (Shane) Thrash, and Marissa Christensen; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Pauline Senecal; one brother-in-law, Jerry Lemke; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by seven sisters, Madeline Monroe, Maude Matchett, Laverne Maraccini, Lula Sniderwin, Vera Lemke, Ethel Bohnett, and Una Hoveland; and one brother, Ivan Hoveland.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Riverside United Methodist Church in Niagara.

The memorial service will follow Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Jean Larson will officiate.

Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery.
