IRON MOUNTAIN – Andrew (“Andy”) Dixon Lucas passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at Dickinson County Hospital after a courageous 15-month battle with cancer.
Andy was born on July 11, 1980, in Iron Mountain, the second son of James and Valerie (Dixon) Lucas. He was raised in Quinnesec and graduated from Kingsford High School in 1998. After high school Andy worked in Appleton and Green Bay, Wis.; Muskegon, and most recently in Eau Claire, Wis.
Andy had a keen wit and loved to play practical jokes; he also enjoyed turkey hunting, fishing, and reading. He especially enjoyed time spent with his nephews. Andy was happy to reconnect one last time with many of his classmates at their reunion this past summer.
Andrew is survived by his parents, Jim and Valerie Lucas of Breitung Township; three brothers, Adam (Sarah) Lucas of Felch, Allen Lucas of Breitung Township, and Austin (Stephanie Antonetti) Lucas of Marquette; two nephews, Dylan and Declan Lucas of Felch; one aunt, Gloria Koelbl; three first cousins, Patrick, Clinton and Derek Koelbl; and many friends and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James and Joanne Lucas; maternal grandparents, Donald and Ethel Dixon; and one uncle, James Koelbl.
The family would like to thank Andy’s friends, Steve Clark, Megan Erickson, Jim Johnson, Shari Pietrantonio and Jay Rossato for their visits and support shown during these past months; Pastor Jim Danielson for his visits and spiritual support; the staffs at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Green Bay Oncology and the OSF Hospice program for their loving care of Andy.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Interment will be in the Felch Cemetery.
