Dark, wet, safe Halloween

IRON MOUNTAIN – Rainy weather throughout the area and a power outage in Kingsford may have dampened the spirits of trick-or-treaters Thursday evening, but local law enforcement reported no serious incidents over the Halloween holiday.

The Iron Mountain-Kingsford Wastewater Treatment Plant in Breitung Township recorded .88 inches of precipitation Thursday.

Brian Manthey of We Energies said that the rainy weather was likely the cause of a 90-minute power outage in Kingsford.

He explained that there was some damage to a piece of overhead equipment called a lightning arrestor.

About 1,200 customers in the area bounded by Hamilton Avenue, John Street, Fox Drive, and Eaton Lane lost power from approximately 6:20 p.m. to 7:50 p.m., said Manthey.

Law enforcement officials in Dickinson, Iron, and Florence counties reported an otherwise quiet evening.
