NIAGARA, Wis. – Frederick D. Chapman, 76, of Niagara, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at Maryhill Manor in Niagara.
He was born on March 19, 1937, in Niagara, the son of Harry Chapman and Elizabeth (LaRoche) Chapman.
Fred moved to Illinois to pursue the florist business in the 1960s. He owned and operated flower shops in Bensonville and Belvidere. In 1979 he “moved back home” to Niagara. Fred enjoyed cooking, raising plants in his greenhouse, and decorating his house for the holidays, especially Christmas. He was well-known for his beautiful Christmas wreaths.
He is survived by three children, Rickie Chapman of Green Bay, Wis., Paul’david Chapman of Niagara and Vickie Hoffart of Kennewick, Wash.; two brothers, Eugene (Verna) Chapman of Niagara and Michael “Mickey” Chapman of Milwaukee, WIs.; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Yolanda) Young, Kyle Hatelak, Carrie Chapman, Ashley (Joe) Holm, Torrie Gregor and Lissa Gregor, four great-grandchildren, Bailey Hoffart, Ella Holm, Vivian Holm and Brandi Chapman; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Sid Chapman, Lawrence Chapman, Bob Chapman and David Chapman; and three sisters, Leona VanGinkel, Hazel Jacobson and Theresa Cretton.
Memorial services will be on Friday, Nov. 15, at 11 a.m. at the Niagara Township Hall. Rev. James Danielson will officiate.
A celebration of Fred’s life will follow on Nov. 15, at the Niagara Township Hall.
