CHANNING – Evelyn L. Race, 99, of Channing, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
She was born on Nov. 5, 1913, in Chicago, the daughter of the late Emil and Marie (Kull) Miller.
She married Herbert Race in January 1932, in Suring, Wis. He preceded her in death in 1984.
Evelyn was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. She enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, sewing and working puzzles. Evelyn enjoyed painting and was a talented artist. She was proud to receive her high school diploma when she was 82 years-old.
She is survived by three daughters, Verna (Doc) Viereck of Lorton, Va., Jane Budnik of Hartford, Wis., and Evelyn (Joseph) Whalen of Channing; a sister, Emmie Reed of Atlanta; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Marlin Race; brother, Edwin Miller; grandson, Sean Whalen; and son-in-law, Alvin Budnik.
Visitation will be Monday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home, and on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Funeral services follow Tuesday, the day of her 100th birthday, at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Rev. Thomas Mackey will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Little Suamico.
