NIAGARA, Wis. – Betty J. Schintgen, 88, of Niagara, passed away Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls.
She was born April 18, 1925, in Kingsford, daughter of the late Lloyd and Irene (Carefell) Martin.
Betty married William E. Schintgen. Together they owned and operated Shanks Bar in Niagara for many years. She was an active member of St. Margaret Catholic Church in Pembine, Wis. Betty enjoyed gardening, fishing and crossword puzzles; she especially enjoyed going out dancing with her husband.
She is survived by her loving husband, William; three sons, Robert (Pat) Magray of Oneida, Wis., Raymond Magray of Old Mill Creek, Ill., William (Cindy) Magray of Green Bay, Wis.; one daughter, Betty (Terry) Moriarity of Niagara; one stepson, Bill (Janet) Schintgen of Niagara; three stepdaughters, Pat Rouse (Doug Payette) of Niagara, Ann (Jim) Bumford of New Franken, Wis. and Evans Schintgen of Rohnert Park, Calif.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by one son, Vernon Magray; one stepson, Jim Schintgen; one sister, Frances Koller; and three brothers, Leonard Martin, Raymond Martin and Robert Martin.
Visitation will be Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to noon at St. Margaret Catholic Church, Pembine.
The funeral Mass will follow at noon Saturday at the church. Fr. Matt Settle will officiate.
