Greg Honeywell

IRON MOUNTAIN – Robert Gregory Honeywell (Greg), 56, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at home.

He was born on Sept. 23, 1957, in Mt. Pleasant, son of the late Robert Honeywell and Joyce Butner of Alma. He graduated high school in Gibbon, Neb., in 1975. Greg received his pilot’s license from Yingling Aviation in Wichita, Kan., in the early 1980s.

He worked at Action Mortgages Co. in Iron Mountain for six years. He also worked for the Dickinson County Chamber of Commerce as a membership director and was beginning a new venture for the Better Business Bureau, for which he had given 30 years of service over his lifetime.

He was an active volunteer for the Red Cross, the D.A.R.E program and many other community service opportunities. Greg enjoyed golfing, watching football, and listening to music. Greg’s love of people can best be summed up by quoting a statement made by one of his many friends, “He was an awesome person. If we could all be so accepting this world would be a better place.”

Greg is survived by one son, Matthew Honeywell; a daughter, Erica Miller (Honeywell), both of Tomball, Texas; his mother, Joyce Butner of Alma; three sisters, Susan Honeywell, Sandra Pierce (Brad), and Cindy Yarbrough (Kraig), all of Texas; one brother, John Honeywell of Sumner, Mich.; and seven nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial Mass in the near future at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford. Please feel free to attend a casual get-together to honor Greg’s life at Big 10 Sports Bar and Grill in Quinnesec on Friday, Oct., 25, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Stop in to share stories and pay homage to Greg.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to his family, in care of Edna Oslund: 444 Newton St., Kingsford, MI 49802, 774-4598; or to the Iron Mountain chapter of the American Red Cross.
