Forest Park extends Skyline volleyball championship streak

CRYSTAL FALLS – Forest Park clinched another Skyline Conference volleyball championship Thursday.

The Trojans, Skyline champs dating back to 1995, swept Rapid River 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-12).

“It’s a great tradition to be a part of as a player and coach,” Forest Park coach Kim Bjork said. “Debbie Smithson started it all. She was a great coach. I had the privilege to learn from her and Sherry Crowl-Grange – two people that have attributed to our continued success with the program. I’m proud of our program.”

Against Rapid River, the Lady Trojans had a full roster for the first time in more than a month.

“It was nice to have everyone back and everyone contributed,” Bjork said. “We are going to keep working to get better every day.”

Bjork was also pleased with Forest Park’s serving that resulted in 12 aces – three each for Lexi Gussert, Kelsi Hendrickson and Kendra Campbell.

Forest Park (23-1-5 overall, 11-0 Skyline) visits West Iron County on Tuesday.

Forest Park’s junior varsity defeated the Rockets 2-0.
