QUINNESEC – Barbara J. Kranz, 79, of Quinnesec, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, peacefully at home surrounded by her family.
She was born Oct. 30, 1933, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Leo and Jeanette (Winning) Lange.
Barb was a lifelong resident of the area; she was a graduate of Kingsford High School, class of 1951. Barb married Gary Kranz on Jan. 5, 1952, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingsford. In her younger years, she worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Co. as an operator.
She was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and worked on the altar guild society. She was a former member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingsford, where she also taught Sunday school and worked on the altar guild.
Barb enjoyed many hobbies including knitting, crocheting, painting and bird watching. She was an avid reader and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Gary; three sons, Fraser Kranz of Goodman Wis., Aaron (Brenda) Kranz of Breitung Township, and Kyle (Dawn) Kranz of Kingsford; four grandchildren, Gary (Dawn), Ashlee, John and Jacob; two step-grandchildren, Zachary and Logan.
In addition to her parents, Barb was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Kleiber; two grandchildren, Dana Kranz and Travis Kranz; and one daughter-in-law, Cecilia Kranz.
In accordance with Barb’s wishes, private family visitation and services will be held. Rev. James Lindgren will officiate.
Burial will be in the Quinnesec Cemetery.
