CRYSTAL FALLS – Francis T. Meakim, 92, of Crystal Falls and formerly of Tinley Park, Ill., passed away Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls.
Francis was born Jan. 1, 1921, in Florida, son of the late Thomas and Mary (Picorni) Meakim. He married Jane Bleskan July 29, 1942, and she preceded him in death.
Francis served in the U.S. Marines from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1946. He served as a captain and flew B25 Bombers. He and his wife resided in Chicago for a few years and in the 1950s moved to Tinley Park, Ill. Francis worked as an electrician for Meany Electric Co. until he retired.
He was an active member of St. George Catholic Church in Tinley Park. In 2007, he moved to Crystal Falls. Francis enjoyed photography and playing tennis in his younger years.
He is survived by two sons, Robert (Patricia) Meakim of Custer, S.D., and Michael (Almeda) Meakim of Chicago; one daughter, Cynthia (Robert) Curtis of Crystal Falls; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Francis was preceded in death by one brother, Norman Meakim.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Vandenberg Funeral Home, 17248 South Harlem Ave., Tinley Park, IL., 60477. Funeral services will follow Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 6001 W. 111th Street, Alsip, IL., 60803.
