BARAGA – A suspect is in custody following a high-speed chase through Baraga this morning, Baraga Police Department officials said.
Baraga Police Chief Harold Miron said the incident started early this morning in Baraga. The suspect vehicle reached speeds in excess of 90 mph in the village of Baraga, and then headed towards the Baraga Plains.
Keweenaw Bay Tribal Police, L’Anse Police Department and Baraga County Sheriff’s Department officers were also involved in the chase.
During the chase, patrol cars were damaged by the suspect’s vehicle, Miron said.
One tribal officer sustained injuries and was treated at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.
The name of the suspect will be released following his arraignment. The investigation is ongoing.
“Alcohol seems to be a factor in the incident,” Chief Miron said.
