Badgers split, suffer more hardship
NIAGARA, Wis. – Niagara split a pair of M&O Conference volleyball matches Thursday, beating Crivitz 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-22) and bowing to Peshtigo 3-1 (25-13, 22-25, 25-23, 25-23).
After falling to Peshtigo, the Lady Badgers ended up losing two players to injury. MacKenzie Gregg hurt her ankle in warm-ups for Crivitz, and Brooklyn Wolosyn injured her arm in the final set with Crivitz.
The Badgers were already playing without setter Abbey Bagnieschi, who was lost several weeks ago and is out for the season.
“The kids really pulled this thing together,” Badgers coach Carol St. Arnauld said. “To pull out a win after facing this adversity really says a lot about these kids.”
Woloysn is expected back for Tuesday’s match against Suring, but Gregg could be out longer.
Kate Nawn (19), Wolosyn (19), Shanna Nordell (17) and Gregg (13) paced the Badgers. Shelby Borchardt produced 107 digs.
After rallying for the set-two win against Peshtigo, the Lady Badgers lost a lead in set three.
“We probably should have beat them,” St. Arnauld said. “But Peshtigo is a nice team though.”
Niagara (7-4 M&O) is host against Suring Tuesday.
