IRON MOUNTAIN – Joseph Schwei, 98, of Iron Mountain, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at his home.
He was born Jan. 29, 1915, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Schwei. Joseph was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School, class of 1933. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1942-1945 when he was honorably discharged.
He married Teresa Branz on June 15, 1946, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. She preceded him in death on Jan. 23, 2009. They celebrated 62 years of marriage together.
Joseph worked for the city of Iron Mountain in the water department for more than 25 years, retiring in 1966.
Joseph was a loving, caring father who enjoyed spending time with his family. His hobbies included gardening, fishing and watching sports. Joseph will be missed by his family and his many friends.
He is survived by two sons, Stephen Schwei of Iron Mountain and Lawrence Schwei of Ypsilanti; one brother, Charles Schwei of Kingsford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 7, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Prayers will be recited Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will officiate.
Burial will be in Cemetery Park.
The Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50 of Iron Mountain will accord military honors at graveside.
