Flivver JVs beat Maroons

KINGSFORD – Kingsford opened its Great Northern Conference junior varsity football season with a 28-14 victory over Menominee at Flivver Field.

Coach Mark Novara’s Flivvers (5-0 overall) play their final home game Thursday, meeting Marquette at 6 p.m.

Ben Moreau paced the Flivver ground game, rushing for 106 yards in 18 carries. Moreau also scored twice from 15 and one yards out.

Brandon Kowalkowski added 61 yards on the ground including a 28-yard score. Kowalkowski also tossed a two-point conversion pass to Nick Smith.

With the Flivvers leading 21-14 at intermission, Alex Blaskowski electrified the crowd, returning the second half kick-off 84 yards to paydirt. Blaskowski finished the day with 139 return yards. Cole Moreau added extra points.

Kingsford registered 14 first downs – 13 on the ground and one through the air on a 29-yard strike from Kowalkowski and Sam Santi. The Flivvers gained 246 yards on the ground and totaled 460 yards through rushing, passing and returns.

On defense, Justin Grailer, Nick Smith, Cole Moreau, Ben Moreau and Santi led the team in tackles. Wyatt Caylor intercepted a Menominee pass.
