Engadine man arrested after chase

ST. IGNACE – An Engadine man has been arrested for fleeing and eluding and operating under the influence of alcohol following a chase incident on U.S. 2 near Gould City on Saturday.

Troopers from the St. Ignace post of the Michigan State Police said that 37-year-old Robert Joseph Frey was operating his all-terrain vehicle on the road when they attempted to pull him over.

According to troopers, Frey slowed down and appeared to pull over, but once they approached the vehicle, he took off at a high rate of speed.

The pursuit continued from Gould City through Engadine.

Troopers said that during the chase, Frey drove on both sides of the road and nearly hit several vehicles. At one point, he drove into the side of a patrol car and caused some minor damage, troopers added.

The chase ended when Frey drove into Millecoquins Lake, landing approximately 20 yards from shore.

After a brief standoff, troopers were able to wade into the water and place Frey under arrest.

Frey is currently out on bond pending a preliminary examination. The incident remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene was the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Department.
