Niagara man dies in U.S. 141 crash

NIAGARA, Wis. – A 21-year-old Niagara, Wis., man died in a head-on crash Friday night on U.S. 141 in the town of Pound, the Marinette County Sheriff’s office said.

The victim was identified as Kristian A. Reed. He was the driver of a northbound vehicle that collided head-on with a southbound vehicle driven by Joseph G. Hayes, 43, of Lemont, Ill, said Chief Deputy James Hansen.

The Hayes vehicle was in the northbound lane, Hansen said.

The accident, which involved two other vehicles, occurred shortly before 11 p.m. near County Highway CP. Other injured parties were transported by rescue squads to Bay Area Medical Center.

Investigation is continuing. Alcohol is believed to be a factor, Hansen said.

Assisting were the Pound Fire Department, Coleman Fire Department, Coleman Rescue, Crivitz Rescue, Crivitz Police Department, Marinette Police Department and Marinette County Coroner George Smith.

The fatality was the sixth of 2013 in Marinette County.
