Tough loss for ‘Cats

FLORENCE, Wis. – Laona-Wabeno handed Florence another Northern Lakes Conference volleyball loss.

The Rebels, who beat the Bobcats in the league opener two weeks ago, posted a 3-1 (16-25, 25-22, 25-12, 25-20) decision Thursday.

“This was a tough loss,” said Florence Coach Trudy Rochon. “We will need to regroup fast and move forward.

“Wabeno-Laona has a nice team with good defense and nice attacks.”

Inside play from Aly Young and Emma Baumgart sparked Florence in the first set. The second set was deadlocked at 22 before the Logrollers produced three straight points.

“We started off strong but missed serves killed us in the second game when were up 20-16,” Rochon said. “It seemed like we scrambled from that point.”

Serve receive also hurt the Bobcats.

Baumgart notched 13 kills and Young had 12 in the match. Keaghan Doda had 11 assists.

Mesa Geiter’s 17 kills, including one to end set 2, led the Rebels. Holly Spaude, capable of hitting jump and float serves, fired six aces along with providing 38 assists.
