Teens injured in Merriman crash

IRON MOUNTAIN – Three teens were injured in a one-vehicle accident early Sunday morning in Breitung Township.

The crash occurred at about 1 a.m. on the Merriman truck trail approximately two miles east of Sportsmen’s Club Road.

Dickinson County Undersheriff Scott Rutter said that initial investigation shows that a Ford F350 pickup truck was traveling erratically before the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a hillside.

The impact caused the vehicle to overturn several times, said Rutter.

A driver and three passengers, who are all 19-years-old and from the Iron Mountain-Kingsford area, were in the vehicle at the time.

Rutter said that three of the occupants were transported to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries. He did not know the extent of their injuries as of this morning.

According to Rutter, speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the incident.

The crash remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the Michigan State Police, Breitung Township Fire Department, and Integrated First Response Ambulance.
