Alfred Spera

IRON MOUNTAIN – Alfred “Fritz” Spera, 90, of Iron Mountain, passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.

Fritz was born on May 7, 1923, in Iron Mountain, son of the late James and Laurina (Corsi) Spera. He was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School. Fritz served in the U.S. Army and the Battle of the Bulge during World War II.

He married Dorothy Clements on July 4, 1947, in Manistique; they recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. While living in Iron Mountain, Fritz worked for Clairmont Trucking for many years until his retirement.

He enjoyed many hobbies including golf, bowling, horseshoes, traveling and especially going to the casino. Fritz spent many years at Lake Mary Chain of Lakes in Loretto, he and Dorothy enjoying the cottage. He was an active member of the Norway Moose Lodge.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Dorothy; his 26 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, Alfred was preceded in death by his infant brother, James Spera; six sisters, Dora Pietrantonio, Helen Leonard, Flora DeRidder, Ida DeBernardi, Mary Larson and Alice Engibous; and sister and brother-in-law, Marge and Leno Alexander.

In accordance with Alfred’s wishes private services will be held at a later date.

Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
