CRYSTAL FALLS – James J. Corbett, 81, of Iron Mountain, passed away Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls.
He was born March 29, 1932, in Escanaba, son of the late Thomas and Alice (Collins) Corbett.
James graduated from Escanaba High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 7, 1952, until he was honorably discharged on Sept. 3, 1954. After the service, James attended the University of Michigan from 1954-1956. In 1956, he attended Northern Michigan University where he received his bachelor’s degree in social work.
James moved back to Escanaba and worked as a social worker. He later took a job with the First National Bank in Escanaba. After his retirement from the bank, he moved to Iron Mountain and worked at the Oscar G. Johnson V.A. Medical Center as a boiler operator.
James was an avid reader. He enjoyed birds, flowers, gardening and listening to music.
He is survived by one brother, Bob (Helen) Corbett of Danforth, Mich.; one sister, Joan (Carl) Tubbs of New Richmond, Wis.; one niece, Alicia Corbett of Minneapolis; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by five brothers, Harold, Donald, Harris, Tommy and Francis; and one sister, Alice Leggett.
