Boris Stoyan Tchokreff

IRON MOUNTAIN – Boris Stoyan “The Greek” Tchokreff, 83, of Iron Mountain, passed away Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain.

He was born June 8, 1930, in Wayne County, son of the late Stoyan and Athinka (Naomcheff) Tchokreff.

Boris attended school in Detroit and in the eighth grade attended the military academy, where he graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War.

Boris married Angeline Farchione on April 24, 1955, in Detroit.

He worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Company and later Ameritech as a splicer while residing in Detroit, retiring in 1988.

Boris and his wife moved to the area in 1976.

He was a member of St. Mary Orthodox Church, Iron Mountain, and a life member of the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50, Iron Mountain, American Legion Color Guard, life member U.S. Corp, VFW member and 40 et 8.

Boris was an amateur radio operator (ham), he enjoyed western movies, taking rides, traveling throughout the United States, spending time outdoors, participating in outdoor sports, hunting, and especially spending time with his family, grandchildren and his many friends. He was a jack of all trades.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Angie; four sons, Robin (Kelly) Tchokreff of Iron Mountain, Dale Tchokreff of Iron Mountain, Dana (Karis) Tchokreff of California, Todd (Tia) Tchokreff of Korea; one daughter, Vina Lewis of California; one sister, Sonja Sneddon of Detroit; eight grandchildren, Nik-Stoyan, Sydnee (Bill), Dion, Victor, Carly, Mariah, Natalie and Sam.

In addition to his parents, Boris was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Tchokreff; one sister, Nancy Briggs; and a granddaughter, Angelica Tchokreff.

Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Father Mark Hagan will officiate.

Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain. The Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50 of Iron Mountain will accord military honors at graveside.
