IRON RIVER – Stella M. Doenitz, 89, of Iron River, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls.
She was born Jan. 26, 1924, in Stambaugh, daughter of the late John and Mary (Helseski) Swendeusz. She attended Iron River Schools, graduating from Iron River High School with the class of 1941. She was employed at J.C. Penny’s and the Matt Toti Store for many years.
Stella married Edmund Wodzinski in 1941. Edmund died in 1944.
She married Harland Doenitz on Aug. 12, 1951, in Iron River, and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2001. Harland preceded her in death on June 7, 2003.
Stella was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River and the Rosary Sodality. She was a former member of the Assumption Church and Ladies of Mary.
Stella is survived by her son, Edward (Diane) Wodzinski of De Pere, Wis.; daughters, Diane (Robert) Thomas of Midland and Jane (Phillip) Butler of Iron River; sister, Sophie Holland of Appleton, Wis.; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, John and Martin.
Visitation will be Monday, Sept. 16, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.
Funeral services will follow Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase, pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River.
