WILLISTON, N.D. – Bond has been reduced for an Iron River man accused of fatally stabbing another Iron River man in North Dakota.
According to documents obtained from the Williams County District Court, Ryan Neil Anderson’s bond was reduced from $500,000 to $50,000.
The Williston Herald newspaper reported that Anderson’s family was able to bond him out of jail.
Conditions of the bond are that Anderson not leave the state of North Dakota, not consume alcohol, and not possess firearms or other dangerous weapons.
Anderson provided a Minot, N.D. address to the court.
A pre-trial in the case is scheduled for Jan. 27. A two-week jury trial will follow on Feb. 10 through 21.
Anderson, 31, faces one felony count of murder for allegedly stabbing and killing his friend, 32-year-old Christopher King, on March 17 at an oil field camp near Ray, N.D.
According to court documents, witnesses claimed that Anderson had been involved in a physical altercation with his girlfriend on the night in question.
Other occupants of the housing unit intervened and ended the altercation.
After leaving the scene, Anderson returned.
Surveillance footage supposedly shows King grabbing Anderson, and Anderson pulling a three- to four-inch Schrade “Black Ice” folding knife out of his pocket. King was stabbed twice in the chest and twice in the abdomen. He was later pronounced dead at the Tioga Medical Center.
Initially, Anderson was held on a $1 million bond and accused of an additional charge of attempted murder for attacking another man.
Bond was later reduced from $1 million to $500,000, and the attempted murder charge was dismissed.
The Williston Herald reported that the bond was originally lowered due to Anderson having a local support system in town. There was also some discussion of whether or not Anderson acted in self defense, according to the Williston Herald.
Bond was further reduced from $500,000 to $50,000 due to new evidence produced by the defense, the Williston Herald reported.
