Mildred Giannetti

VULCAN – Mildred B. Giannetti, 89, of Vulcan, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.

She was born on Nov. 21, 1923, in Vulcan, daughter of the late Frank and Esther (Koish) Shubert.

Mildred married John Giannetti on June 10, 1942, in New York; he preceded her in death on April 13, 1975.

Millie’s first job in New York was a package wrapper at Macy’s. She also worked as a waitress at Park Central Restaurant on 6th Ave., only a few blocks from Radio City Music Hall.

They moved back to the area in the early 1960’s to help take care of Mildred’s father and to be closer to her family.

She worked in sales at Kresge’s and Montgomery Ward in the appliance department, at the Vulcan Middle School, and as the assistant manager at the Iron Mountain Iron Mine in Vulcan.

Millie was a member of St. Barbara’s Church and St. Ann’s Altar Society.

She is survived by her grandchildren, John Paul Giannetti and Barbara Marie Giannetti (Vance Kelly); great-grandson, Quinn Giannetti Kelly; daughter-in-law, Barbara Giannetti; sister-in-law, Beverly Johns; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Millie was preceded in death by her son, AEC John Giannetti USN Ret.; brothers, Harry and Frank “Sonny” Schubert; and sister, Adeline “Tootie” Crantz.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, at 1 p.m. at the Norway Township Cemetery, with Fr. Timothy Ekaitis of St. Barbara’s Church officiating.
