JV football: Kingsford wins, IM loses

KINGSFORD – Coach Mark Novara’s Kingsford Flivver jayvees opened the season with a 39-0 victory over Lakeland at Flivver Field.

Kingsford, using 11 different rushers, tallied 308 yards on the ground. Brandon Kowalkowski paced the attack with 53 yards in three trips. Brett Swanson went 51 yards in seven tries. Alex Blaskowski had three carries for 48 yards, and Sam Santi added a 43-yard rush.

Kowalkowski threw seven completions for 109 yards, and Dylan Dalsanto had four passes for 39 yards. Kowalkowski threw two touchdowns, hitting Santi for strikes of 18 and 26 yards. Dalsanto fired a four-yard touchdown to Nick Smith, who totaled 43 yards with three catches.

Cole Moreau and Blaskowski both notched rushing touchdowns. Ben Moreau scored on a 40-yard interception return. Gavin Johnston kicked an extra point, and Smith added a two-point conversion.

On defense, Kowalkowski and Dalsanto had interceptions. Justin Grailer pounded on a fumble caused by Kyle Eckerberg. Holden Visintainer, Joe Linn, Eckerberg and Smith led the Flivvers in tackles.

Kingsford travels to Menominee Thursday, The Great Northern Conference contest with the Maroons is Sept. 28.

Iron Mountain 13

IRON MOUNTAIN – Iron Mountain’s Tanner Huotari and Like Truscott scored touchdowns in a loss to Ishpeming. Huotari ran in for a 20-yard tally. Truscott was on the receiving end of a 17-yard toss from Huotari.

Jacob Stoner added an extra point.

Nick Lusardi (14), Huotari (12) and Kyle Johnson (12) led IM in tackles. Brady Erickson added an interception.

Mountaineers (0-1, 0-1) host Gwinn at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
