NORWAY – Elmer Joseph Bianchi, 89, of Norway, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at the Oscar G. Johnson V.A. Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
Elmer was born July 4, 1924, in Norway, son of the late Carlo and Marie (Selna) Bianchi. He graduated from Norway High School in 1943, and was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving three years in the South Pacific.
Elmer married Jeanette Franzoi on June 19, 1948, at St. Barbara Catholic Church in Vulcan. She preceded him in death in 1991.
Elmer worked for Anderson Motors in Norway for 37 years as the parts manager. He also worked for eight years as parts manager for Riverside Auto in Iron Mountain, retiring in 1989. He sat on the Norway-Vulcan School Board for 16 years and was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Elmer enjoyed gardening, playing cards, going to camp and spending time with family and friends.
Elmer is survived by his children, Mary Beth (Jeff) Moraska of Iron Mountain and Michael (Vicki) Bianchi of Quinnesec; grandchildren, Chad and Ciera; many friends from the CLC at the V.A. Hospital; and two homecare providers, Belinda and Sheila.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clement and George Bianchi .
There will be a private family graveside service. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate.
Burial will be in the Norway Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Dickinson County Office of Veterans Affairs, or the CLC (Community Living Center) at the V.A. Hospital.
