IRON MOUNTAIN – Vonna M. Kirby, 84, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
Vonna was born on Oct. 5, 1928, in Hammond, Ind., daughter of the late Afarague and Huldur (Anderson) White.
She was a 1947 graduate of Rapid River High School, and went on to serve three years with the United States Air Force. Following her honorable discharge from the Air Force, Vonna began a career with the government through the VA hospital system. She worked for several years at a VA hospital in West Virginia. In 1974, she relocated to Iron Mountain and continued her career at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center.
Vonna was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. She enjoyed traveling, visiting relatives, and drove her motorhome to many places around the country. She loved animals.
Vonna is survived by her brother, Donald Whitmore of Green Bay, Wis.; a niece and nephew, Nita (Robert) Brewer of Granbury, Texas, and Daniel Whitmore of Green Bay; cousins, Pat Bricky, and Dorothy Pokrzywinski, both of Milwaukee; and special friend, Lynn Dinnocenzo of Iron Mountain.
Visitation will be Monday, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will follow Monday at 10 a.m. at the church. Rev. Lee Liverance will officiate
