Yurkovich Band to perform

IRON MOUNTAIN – The Richie Yurkovich Band will be performing for the Crystal Lake Senior Center dance on Friday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Although the band is classified as a polka band, they play a blend of many styles of music, including waltz, country and rock ‘n roll.

“They play with enthusiasm, energy and stage presence to bring you a mix of music and show,” said a spokesperson.

They currently have 24 albums recorded and are currently working on a new recording. They perform at many top festivals in many states and they play regularly at Mount Shasta in Michigamme, the Webb in Cameron, Wis. and the Downing Civic Center.

This will be their second performance in Iron Mountain.

Richie, who lives in Willard, Wis., plays the accordion and button box and also does vocals. The accordion he plays is equipped with a MIDI system that enables him to play the sounds of piano, organ, bass guitar, sax, trumpet, and strings. The drummer is Jeff Walker and he also plays the guitar, banjo and accordion.

The band has hosted tours to Europe, Hawaii and several areas of the United States, and received and award for playing at the Izseljenski Piknik in Slovenia, Yugoslavia.

Yurkovich offers many opportunities to book the band as they can be booked as a two, three or four piece group. He also performs solo on occasion.

He has written more than 50 songs, these include polkas, waltzes and country songs and one song book containing some of these songs was published several years ago.

Admission to the dance is $8. Persons may bring beverages of their choice. A light lunch will be served.

The Center is located at 700 Crystal Lake Blvd. in Iron Mountain. Dances are held the second and fourth Friday of the month.
