HIBBING, Minn. – Donald Victor Draves, 86, of Hibbing, peacefully passed away on Aug. 10, 2013, at the Rivers in Burnsville, Minn., surrounded by his loving family and caregivers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine; and daughter-in-law, Joy.
He served the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946 and was honorably discharged. Upon returning home he began his career working for the Hanna Mining Co. in Hibbing and Iron Mountain until his retirement in 1985.
He was a longtime member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingsford and Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Hibbing.
Don lived his life to the fullest. He spent a great deal of time with his children, grandchildren and friends; fishing, watching Packers games, gardening, traveling and working on DIY projects. He was always friendly and considerate of others and extremely generous with his time and resources, always ready to lend a hand. He was a real gentleman who greeted everyone with a smile and left them with a thank you.
Survived by children, David (Deanna), Daniel (Theresa), and Dale (Shelly); grandchildren, Steven (Kari), Mark (Natalie), Kevin (Brianne), Erick, Tanner and Tyler; great-grandchildren, Gavin and Jase; sister, Ginger Schafer; special friend, Marianne; nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends.
A family memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hibbing. The Rev. Sue Smith will officiate.
A gathering time will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
