SAWYER LAKE – Robert H. Miller, 67, of Sawyer Lake, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at his home.
Bob was born Feb. 27, 1946, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Harold and Elaine (Hallman) Miller.
Bob was a resident of this area his entire life and was a 1964 graduate of Kingsford High School. He volunteered to serve the United States Army during the Vietnam War and served from 1966-68, during which time he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in 1968 with the rank of Sergeant E5.
Bob married Deb Hamby on Oct. 1, 1976, in Iron Mountain. He worked for several local businesses, including Wickman Welding, Lakeshore Inc. and Customer Metal and Fab until his retirement.
Bob was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and a former member of the Sagola Sportsman’s Club.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, helping others, working around his house and garage and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He recently began a new small business at his home called Gas Axe Service and Repair. He was a gifted handyman and could fix just about anything.
Bob leaves his wife, Deb; children, Lana and Bob Miller of Iron Mountain; brothers, Jim (Pam) Miller of Iron Mountain and Ed (Diana) Miller of Iron Mountain; grandchildren, Valerie Davis, Victoria Williams and Cheyeanne Miller; great-grandchildren, Kayelynn, Ayeva and Damon; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Don and Florence Hamby of Randville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Randy (Nancy) Hamby of Alaska, Bud (Cheryl) Hamby of Iron Mountain, Don (Gail) Hamby of Randville, Ron (Penny) Hamby of Iron Mountain, Dennis (Sandy) Hamby of Felch; and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Phillips; and brother-in-law, Roy Phillips.
Visitation will be Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at noon at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be at Dickinson County Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dickinson County Cancer Closet.
