CRYSTAL FALLS – Ray G. Hendershott, 77, of Crystal Falls, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013.
Ray was born Jan. 21, 1936, in Flint, son of the late Casper and Emma (Roth) Hendershott. He was raised in Flint and attended Calvary Lutheran School through the eighth grade.
He married the former Rhea Brooks on Oct. 6, 1954, in Lansing. Ray worked for General Motors in Flint for 16 years. After leaving General Motors, they moved their family to Iron County. Ray worked for the Iron County Housing Authority, Dickinson Homes, Angeli’s Market and then retired from Angeli’s Chrysler in 2003.
He was a former member of the Crystal Falls Masonic Lodge and Shriners. Ray also was a member of the Sno-Cats Snowmobile Club. He loved to gamble and enjoyed traveling to casinos around the country. He also enjoyed building projects, gardening, reading Louis L’Amour western novels and lovingly tormenting his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Ray C. Hendershott in 2009; two brothers, Dale and George Hendershott; and one sister, Joyce Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Rhea; daughters, Robin Upperstrom of Delavan, Wis., and Roxann (Henry) Perry of Crystal Falls; his sister, Vera Town of Owosso; grandchildren, Cory and Craig Upperstrom, Ryan (Torina) Hendershott, and Justin, Kelsey and Haley Perry; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at United Lutheran Church in Crystal Falls.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, followed by a luncheon. Rev. Micheal Laakko will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
