IM celebrates its Italian heritage

IRON MOUNTAIN – Sunny skies are forecast for the seventh annual Italian Fest being held in downtown Iron Mountain today.

Italian Fest begins immediately following the Farmer’s Market at noon and goes until 11 p.m.

Food vendors include Alley Dog Hot Dogs, Antonio’s, Crispigna’s, Hillcrest Catering and Northside Noodle Company.

Wine, beer and additional beverages will be available the entire day.

The bocce ball court and Italian Market will also be set up for the duration of the day. In addition, children’s inflatable bounce houses and games provided by Abracadabra and Abundant Life Church will be available from noon until 8 p.m.

All activities are held in the parking lot off Iron Mountain and A streets.

The National Weather Service predicts temperatures to be in the lower 80s today with light winds. No rain is expected.

The schedule for the 2013 Italian Fest, being emceed by Tom Gursky includes:

Noon to 12:15 p.m., opening ceremony – God Bless America (English & Italian) Ralph Izzo

12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Bill Hassey Orchestra

1:15 p.m., Italian Fest King and Queen Crowning

2:45 p.m., Pizza Dough Tossing Competition

3:15 p.m., Anastasia Lee and Tom Gursky

3:45 p.m., Italian Idol

4:15 p.m., Jan & Gino

5:45 p.m., Grape Stomp

6:15 p.m., Jan & Gino

7:30 p.m., U.P. Dance Academy

8 p.m. to 11 p.m., The Cadillacs

Cost is $5 per person and children 12 and under.

Tour de Dickinson Bike Ride participants get in for free.

All proceeds benefit community revitalization programs helping to improve the local quality of life.
