Carl O. Carlson Jr.
FOSTER CITY – Carl O. Carlson Jr., 90, entered eternal life Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at the Marquette General Hospital in the loving care of his family.
Carl was born March 10, 1923, to Carl and Barbara (Mielki) Carlson and was raised in Calumet Mine. Carl left school at an early age to begin a job working in the woods and enlisted in the Army when he became of age, serving a tour in the Philippines. After his tour of duty, Carl returned home and married Viola Parkansky. Together, the couple settled down in Foster City and began raising their family.
Carl worked many jobs over the years, but mainly was a laborer for the Michigan Laborer’s Union. In his spare time, Carl enjoyed his garden, where he grew tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini and many other assorted vegetables that he often gave away.
Carl was an avid fisherman, hunter and trapper, and he treasured his time spent outdoors, and in and around the family camp. He was a family man and loved seeing his grandchildren and being as involved as possible with them.
Carl is survived by his wife 66 years, Viola; his daughters, Barbara (Robert) Lantz, Patricia (Terry) Cryderman, Linda (Andy) Zamot; his grandchildren, Robert (Ann Marie) Lantz III, Christie Lantz, Tracy (Matt) Tregillis, April (Nick) Harwath, Michael Zamot Brian Zamot; great-grandchildren, Jessica Harwath, Jason Harwath, Marissa Lantz, Julia Lantz; great-great-grandchildren, Hailey Peterson and Leah Zamot; his brothers, Howard Carlson and Kenneth Carlson; and a sister, Mildred Carlson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold and Raymond Carlson; and his sisters, Audrey Nelson, Myrtle Dennis and Violet Meintz.
Private family services will be held at the Foster City Cemetery at a later date.
