FLORENCE, Wis. – The two suspects in the recent armed robberies in Long Lake, Wis. and Baraga County have officially been charged in Florence County Court.
Donavan Lee Waupoose, 21, of Stephenson and Bernard A. Fish, 27, of Shawano, Wis. each face one felony count of robbery with use of force.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.
Since Waupoose is currently being held in the Baraga County Jail and Fish remains at large, no court dates have yet been scheduled.
The charges stem from an Aug. 1 incident.
After allegedly holding two Baraga County residents at gunpoint and stealing their wallets and personal identification, the suspects made their way to Long Lake.
Once there, one of the suspects allegedly carjacked a vehicle that was in the parking lot of Flatlanders Bar. The vehicle contained three males and two younger children.
According to deputies from the Florence County Sheriff’s Department, the suspect produced a handgun and ordered the vehicle occupants to put their wallets and cell phones on the dash.
The suspect then ordered everyone out of the vehicle about eight miles down State Highway 139, near Newald, Wis, and continued on in the stolen vehicle.
Deputies believed the suspect had an accomplice.
Waupoose was apprehended Monday in Stephenson after Michigan State Police conducted a search warrant at a residence.
In Baraga County, Waupoose faces two counts of armed robbery, a felony punishable by life imprisonment; two counts of extortion, a 20-year felony; two counts of unlawful imprisonment, a 15-year felony; and a count of impersonating a police officer to commit a crime, a four-year felony.
He is being held on a $1 million bond.
Fish remains at large. He is a Native American male with short black hair, and is five feet, 11 inches tall, and 185 pounds. Authorities believe that he may be in Wisconsin.
Anyone with information about Fish’s whereabouts is urged to contact the nearest law enforcement agency.
