Two killed in crash

MUNISING – An elderly couple was killed after crossing the centerline and striking another vehicle in Alger County’s Burt Township on Thursday afternoon.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Munising Detachment were dispatched to a two-vehicle double-fatal crash on H-58 near the Adams Trail in Burt Township at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Police said 35-year-old Scott Lakosky of Manistique was southbound on H-58 driving a Department of Natural Resources dump truck when 83-year-old Robert Pine and 79-year-old Lucy Pine, both of Grand Marais, were northbound on H-58.

The northbound vehicle, driven by Robert Pine, crossed the centerline and struck the southbound vehicle.

Both Robert and Lucy Pine died from injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene was the Pictured Rocks Park Rangers, Michigan State Police accident investigators and re-constructionist, Munising Township Fire Department and the Alger County Ambulance and Extrication Unit.
