Standoff in Aurora leads to weapons, drug arrests

FLORENCE, Wis. – Four people have been arrested on weapons and drug charges following a standoff incident in Aurora, Wis. on Friday evening.

The incident occurred at about 7:40 p.m. when deputies from the Florence County Sheriff’s Department received a report that a man had pointed a rifle at a tenant inside his house.

Deputies surrounded the residence and were able to make contact with the offender. The offender then allowed four people inside the residence to be released unharmed before he surrendered himself to law enforcement officials.

While clearing the residence, deputies reported that they smelled a strong chemical odor. They observed chemicals that they believed were consistent with a methamphetamine lab and a marijuana grow operation.

Deputies exited the residence and the Florence County Hazmat Team responded to the scene.

Along with a search warrant and assistance from the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation, deputies searched the residence and found several items related to the manufacture and sale of marijuana.

Two male suspects and two female suspects were arrested and lodged in the Florence County Jail as a result of the investigation. Their names will not be released until formal charges are filed.
